Halfords keeping the Ride to Wembley off the road!

Rugby League Cares is delighted to announce that Halfords will be the official equipment supplier to the charity’s off-road cycling challenge, the 2019 UK Red Ride to Wembley.

Halfords is one of the longest established and most trusted brands on the UK high street and will provide spare parts and accessories to the 23 riders taking part in the epic fund-raising challenge for RL Cares.

The ride is a rigorous test of fitness, stamina and determination and follows a 340-mile route from the George Hotel in Huddersfield – the historic birthplace of Rugby League – to Wembley Stadium.

Taking in tough hill climbs through the Pennines, Peak District, Cotswolds and Chilterns, the route avoids tarmac wherever possible by following bridleways, canal towpaths, forest trails and green lanes.

The riders include former Rugby League internationals Denis Betts, Andrea Dobson, Robbie Hunter-Paul, Kirsty Moroney, Keith Senior, Beth Sutcliffe, Lee Smith and Nathan McAvoy.

Chris Rostron, the Head of RL Cares, said: “We would like to thanks the team at Halfords in Kirkstall, Leeds, for their continued support for the charity and its work.

“This is the third year the Kirkstall branch has sponsored the ride and we know from past experience how essential the parts and accessories they so generously donate are in keeping everyone riding for a week.

“The UK Red Ride to Wembley is an important venture for RL Cares and the involvement of Halfords, with all their considerable expertise, allows us to maximise its fundraising.”

Rugby League fans can sponsor the participants on the Ride to Wembley by making a donation on any of the group’s Justgiving pages.  For more details of the ride, or to make a donation, please click here
