Jimmy Gittins

Jimmy Gittins suffered a serious spinal injury playing for Sharlston Rovers in 2002, breaking his neck in two places and ending a promising amateur career.

Since then, he has tackled every challenge he has faced head on and become an inspiration to everyone he meets.

He has established a successful specialist rehabilitation unit that has won national and regional awards and participated in some epic fundraising challenges for the Steve Prescott Foundation and Rugby League Benevolent Fund, which has supported his continued rehabilitation.

Jimmy has been a mental health ambassador for the charity State of Mind for the last decade and works tirelessly to raise awareness of the challenges, and opportunities faced by people with spinal injuries.

He is a qualified ASSIST in suicide intervention training, is qualified in young people’s suicide prevention through Papyrus and is a mental health first aider, which he also teaches.
