A former Great Britain International centre is urging Rugby League players to consider careers in the NHS once their playing days are over.
Shaun Irwin, who became a Great Britain Lion when he was selected for the 1990 tour of Papua New Guinea and New Zealand, has forged a successful career as a top-end paramedic since hanging up his boots in 1998.
The ex-Castleford and Oldham player believes professional Rugby League players possess many of the skills needed to succeed in the multitude of high-pressure career options that exist within the NHS.
Rugby League Cares helps players make successful transitions into new careers as part of the its player welfare role: the charity employs a full time Transition Manager in Francis Stephenson, the former Wakefield, London, Wigan and Hull KR prop, and a full time Career Coach, Julie Measures.
