Yorkshire Boilers back in the saddle as partners of the UK Red Ride to Wembley

Rugby League Cares is pleased to confirm that Yorkshire Boilers have become an associate partner of the UK Red Ride to Wembley for a second successive year.

The Wakefield-based energy experts supported the inaugural ride in 2017 and will again be involve in the epic challenge in August, when 25 riders will cycle over 300 miles from Old Trafford to Wembley Stadium.

Yorkshire Boilers’ Managing Director James Elston will once again take to the saddle for the ride, which avoids roads by following forest trails, bridleways and canal towpaths on a gruelling course through the heart of England.

“It’s great to have the opportunity to take part in the Ride to Wembley and do what we can to help a charity that does so much good in Rugby League,” said James, who played with Dewsbury and York before becoming chief executive of Wakefield Trinity.

“Yorkshire Boilers is proud to be a partner of Rugby League Cares and I’m really looking forward to what will be a massive test for all the riders and another outstanding experience.

“Last year’s Ride to Wembley from Leeds to the Challenge Cup final was really tough but one of the most enjoyable weeks I’ve ever had. And with so many more former players taking part this year, the 2018 ride is going to be an absolute blast!”

The riders who will leave Old Trafford on Monday August 20 bound for the 2018 Ladbroke Challenge Cup final include Gareth Ellis, the man who hoisted the famous old trophy at Wembley as captain of Hull FC in 2016 and 2017.

Gareth is joined by former Castleford Tigers captain Andy Lynch, ex-Wigan and Widnes legend Mick Cassidy, Kiwi international half-back Robbie Hunter-Paul, and former England three-quarters Nathan McAvoy and Chev Walker.

James added: “It will be good to team up with Gareth and Andy again: I played alongside Andy for Yorkshire when we were teenagers and was in the same Wakefield reserve team as Gareth when he first emerged from the juniors.”

Chris Rostron, the Head of RL Cares, said: “It’s fantastic to have James and Yorkshire Boilers on board as part of the Ride to Wembley team and we really appreciate their generous support.

“James was a key member of last year’s ride, and not just for his spectacular – and incredibly funny – crash in the middle of Sherwood Forest!  I’m looking forward to riding with James again and showing him the ropes as an expert bike wrangler!”

The 2018 UK Red Ride to Wembley is schedule to arrive at the Rugby League Legends statue at Wembley Stadium on the afternoon of Friday August 24, the eve of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup final.
