Rugby League Cares mourns death of Dr Fiona Spiers

Rugby League Cares is saddened to learn of the death of one of the charity’s trustees, Dr Fiona Spiers, who passed away last week after a long illness.

Dr Spiers joined the Board of Trustees in 2018 and was a tireless supporter of the charity and its work.

A former Head of Heritage Lottery Fund for Yorkshire and Humber, Dr Spiers had extensive experience in the field of heritage projects and lottery funding.

Rugby League Cares Chairman Tim Adams MBE said: “On behalf of my fellow trustees and the staff at RL Cares I would like to extend my condolences to Fiona’s husband, Edward and all their family at this very sad time.

“Fiona was a delight to work with: her knowledge and understanding acquired from more than 12 years at the helm of the HLF in the Yorkshire and Humber region was invaluable to us.

“But it is her enthusiasm and sharp eye that we will most miss: Fiona was a delight to work with and her loss is keenly felt by everyone involved with the charity.”
