We need your support to be able to continue enhancing the lives of people in communities wherever Rugby League is played.
The foundation is a charity that works alongside Doncaster RLFC and Doncaster Rovers to provide sport and physical exercise opportunities to people across the South Yorkshire town and its surrounding communities.
The partnership with RL Cares will see Club Doncaster Foundation supplying Trek mountain bikes for nine of the 26 riders involved in the Ride to Wembley to use on the 300-mile epic challenge.
The ride is the biggest fundraising venture of the year for RL Cares and sees participants cycle from Old Trafford, Manchester, to Wembley Stadium over five gruelling days, avoiding paved roads wherever possible on a route that takes in bridleways, green lanes, canal towpaths and forest trails.
Club Doncaster Foundation also provided loan bikes for the inaugural Ride to Wembley last year and Scott Copeland, the Foundation’s Cycle to Health Co-ordinator, said: “We are really pleased to have this opportunity to support the UK Red Ride to Wembley for a second year, it’s a massive undertaking for all the people involved and we wish them well.
“We have a good stock of mountain bikes which are used regularly by people of all ages around Doncaster and it’s great that our bikes are going further afield for such a worthy cause!”
Chris Rostron, the Head of Rugby League Cares, who is one of the 26 riders taking part, said: “We would like to thank Club Doncaster Foundation for their continued support of the Ride to Wembley.
“We have a long-standing relationship with the Foundation and it’s really pleasing that they are so keen to help us in this way.”
The 2018 UK Red Ride to Wembley sets off from Old Trafford on Monday August 20 and is scheduled to arrive at the Rugby League Legends statue on the Wembley Stadium concourse on the afternoon of Friday August 24, the eve of the 2018 Ladbrokes Challenge Cup final.
The riders include seven former Rugby League internationals – Mick Cassidy, Paul Highton, Chev Walker, Gareth Ellis, Robbie Hunter-Paul, Andy Lynch and Nathan McAvoy – with an eight retired player, Keith Senior driving one of the support vehicles.
