In November 2023, Rugby League Cares hosted An Evening with Kevin Sinfield OBE, a special event with a very special chief guest and an important aim: to raise awareness, and funds for, the RL Cares Brain Health Fund.
As a trustee of the charity, Kevin took centre stage at Headingley Stadium once again to entertain and inform a star-studded audience, which heard why he is so passionate about the Brain Health Fund.
With proceedings masterfully led by MC Pete Emmett, the evening featured contributions from some of the greatest rugby league players of all time, including RL Hall of Fame inductees Ellery Hanley MBE and Malcolm Reilly OBE.
Many of Kevin’s former Leeds team-mates spoke about the influence he had had on their careers, with some – including Rob Burrow MBE and Jamie Jones Buchanan – ‘dishing the dirt’ on the former England RL international’s mischievous off-field antics!
The team who would be with Kevin for his seven ultra-marathons just a few weeks later also joined him on stage, before the evening ended with a fundraising auction.
The auction helped swell the total funds raised for the Brain Health Fund to an incredible £92,000, which will enable RL Cares to deliver on its objectives of ensuring current players are kept up to date with the latest scientific and medical advice around brain health, and supporting former players diagnosed with neurodegenerative conditions such as dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
Please help RL Cares support players past and present by making a donation to the Brain Health Fund’s dedicated Justgiving page
