Rugby League Cares is delighted to announce Boiler Central as the principal partner of the charity’s 2024 fundraising bike ride, the Wild Atlantic Challenge.
The 300-mile bike ride takes place along Ireland’s rugged southern coastline in June and will be held in association with the Wakefield-based company who instal and service central heating systems across the UK.
Boiler Central will be represented on the ride by their Chief Executive James Elston, a former York and Dewsbury player who has ridden every mile of every fundraising bike ride the charity has held since 2017.
James’s commitment has helped RL Cares raise almost £200,000 in the last seven years and the former Wakefield Trinity CEO is looking forward to getting back in the saddle.
“I’ve forged some great friendships, seen some amazing sights and made memories that will last a lifetime thanks to RL Cares and I’m thrilled to be involved again, especially with Boiler Central as an official partner of the Wild Atlantic Adventure,” said James.
“Community is as important to our team at Boiler Central as it is to RL Cares, and we feel privileged to be able to support such a worthy cause.
“RL Cares makes such an important difference to the lives of so many people, young and old, and that’s what keeps you going on these fantastic cycling challenges when the road ahead looks vertical and your legs are shouting at you!”
Over the course of four days in late June, the riders will tackle a formidable and spectacularly beautiful route between Cork and Limerick to raise the funds the charity needs to continue supporting people across rugby league communities.
Along the way they’ll pass remote, forgotten beaches, ride along rolling clifftop lanes and cross Ireland’s highest mountain range, the famous and imposing MacGillycuddy’s Reeks.
The Wild Atlantic Adventure builds on the success of the charity’s previous fundraising challenges, which have included a 500-mile ride from Niagara Falls to New York City, a 450-mile trans-continental ride across France and off-road rides from the rugby league heartland to Wembley Stadium.
This year will also see RL Cares partner with Rugby Players Ireland, the organisation responsible for delivering player welfare services to rugby union players across the island of Ireland.
RL Cares already has good working relationship with RPI and over the coming months will forge stronger links with a body with whom it shares similar values, especially around issues such as personal development and health.
RL Cares Chief Executive Chris Rostron said: “We are excited to launch the Wild Atlantic Adventure and delighted to have such committed partners in Boiler Central on board with us.
“Like all charities, fundraising is an essential aspect of our work: the funds we raise on our annual bike ride enable us to support some of the most vulnerable people in the towns, villages and cities where rugby league is played.
“As well as raising much-needed funds, the Wild Atlantic Adventure will help raise awareness of the world class work that we do and give everyone involved a first class experience, both on and off the bike.”
