The Hall of Fame is the most exclusive and prestigious club in Rugby League and currently features 25 men who represent the best players to have played the sport since its formation in 1895.
That number will increase to 28 at a special ceremony on Wednesday November 7th when the three new inductees will be welcomed into the Hall of Fame by many of the existing members at a celebration dinner at Elland Road, Leeds.
To qualify for membership of the Rugby League Hall of Fame, a player must meet stringent criteria including a record of outstanding achievement at the very highest levels of the game; have a reputation that transcends the era in which he played; and made a contribution to the game that will last as long as rugby league is played.
Players are only considered for inclusion in the Hall of Fame once they have been retired for 10 years; they must also have played at the highest level of Rugby League for a minimum of 10 years.
The inductions will be the first since 2015, when Shaun Edwards OBE and Albert Goldthorpe were elevated to the game’s pantheon.
The Hall of Fame inductees are selected by a specially assembled panel featuring historians, statisticians, administrators and former players under the chairmanship of Rugby League Cares official, John Ledger.
“Thousands of outstanding athletes have played Rugby League in the last 123 years, as have hundreds of truly great players: the Hall of Fame represents the best of the best and we are delighted to welcome three new inductees into this exclusive club,” said John.
“The Rugby League Hall of Fame dinner will be a very special occasion and an opportunity to celebrate the careers of the sport’s greatest players in the company of some sporting legends.”
The Rugby League Hall of Fame Celebration Dinner takes place at Elland Road, Leeds, on Wednesday November 7th. Tickets cost £40 or £650 for a VIP table of 10.
