Golden Boots and Golden Caps to be awarded at RL Hall of Fame dinner

Some of the greatest players in the history of Rugby League will rub shoulders with the international stars of today at a very special dinner in Leeds on Wednesday November 7.

Rugby League Cares is pleased to announce that the Rugby League Hall of Fame induction dinner will also feature the presentation of the Golden Boot to the best male and female international players of 2018.

The charity has partnered with the Rugby League International Federation to create a not-to-be missed event that celebrates the careers and exploits of current and former players.

The dinner marks the first time that the RLIF will present a Golden Boot to the best international women’s player.

The sport’s most prestigious individual awards are based on international performances in 2018 and will be presented at the Rugby League Hall of Fame and RLIF Golden Boot Dinner at Elland Road, Leeds.

The Golden Boot was first awarded in 1985, when Australia’s Wally Lewis was the inaugural winner; the current holder is Melbourne Storm’s Cameron Smith, who was named International Player of the Year for the second time in his career in 2017.

In another first for the sport, the RLIF will also present ‘Golden Caps’ to players who made 50 or more senior international appearances during their careers.

The initial short-list for the male and female Golden Boot awards will be announced on Wednesday October 24.

Chris Rostron, the Head of RL Cares, said: “When we were approached by the RLIF about the possibility of presenting the 2018 international awards at the Rugby League Hall of Fame dinner we were delighted to work with them.

“The Rugby League Hall of Fame dinner is already one of the most prestigious events in the sport’s calendar and the presentation of Golden Boots and Golden Caps will make it simply unmissable.”

The highlight of the dinner is the induction of three all-time greats into Rugby League’s most exclusive club, the Rugby League Hall of Fame, which currently features the 25 greatest players since the sport was created in 1895.

Tickets for the Rugby League Hall of Fame and RLIF Golden Boot Dinner are available from Rugby League Cares and cost £40 per person.  A VIP table of 10, including three-course meal and drinks, costs £650.
