Rugby League Cares is delighted to announce that specialist engineering company Spec will be swapping electrical power for pedal power as official partners of the 2018 UK Red Ride to Wembley.
The West Yorkshire-based company already has Rugby League in its DNA as associate sponsors of Super League champions Leeds Rhinos and have agreed to be active supporters of RL Cares’ major fundraising venture.
As well as generous financial backing, Spec will be represented on the 300-mile off-road ride from Old Trafford to Wembley Stadium in August by two senior directors, Mike Middleton and Ian Needham. Mike’s son, Matthew will also take part in the epic five-day challenge which takes place between Monday August 20 and Friday August 24, the eve of the 2018 Ladbrokes Challenge Cup final.
“We are huge Rugby League fans and when the chance to be involved in the Ride to Wembley came along we didn’t give it a second thought,” said Engineering Director Mike Middleton.
“Rugby League Cares is such a great cause and it’s fantastic that we have this opportunity to help the charity raise the funds it needs to do all it does.
“300 miles, most of them off-road, in just five days is going to be a massive challenge for the three of us but we’re looking forward to riding alongside some real Rugby League legends.”
The 25 riders on the Ride to Wembley include former Leeds centre Chev Walker and ex-Headingley favourite Gareth Ellis, the man who hoisted the Challenge Cup trophy as captain of Hull FC in 2016 and 2017.
Other former players include ex-Castleford Tigers prop Andy Lynch, Bradford Bulls and New Zealand legend Robbie Hunter-Paul and current Sheffield Eagles assistant coach Keith Senior, who will be driving one of the support vehicles.
