Halfords helps RL Cares gear up for the Ride to Wembley

Rugby League Cares is delighted to announce that Halfords will be the official equipment supplier to the UK Red Ride to Wembley.

Halfords is one of the longest established and most trusted brands on the UK high street and will provide spare parts, accessories and nutrition supplements to the 15 riders taking part in the epic fund-raising challenge for RL Cares.

In addition, the maintenance technicians at Halfords Kirkstall in Leeds have serviced the bikes that will take the riders on the 320-mile off-road trek from Headingley Stadium to Wembley.

“It’s fantastic to know we have the support of such a prestigious brand as Halfords for our challenge and we are very grateful for the generosity of Bicycle Manager Chris Whitworth and his team,” said the Head of Rugby League Cares, Chris Rostron.

“The UK Red Ride to Wembley is an important venture for RL Cares and the involvement of Halfords, with all their considerable expertise, will enable the charity to maximise its fundraising.”

The riders include former professional Rugby League players Keith Senior, Chev Walker, Paul Highton and James Elston, TV presenter Alex Simmons, sponsor representatives and RL Cares staff. They will set off from Headingley on Monday August 21, arriving at Wembley on the eve of the Challenge Cup final, Hull FC v Wigan Warriors.

All the proceeds from the ride, which takes place predominantly on forest trails, riverside paths and bridleways, will help fund RL Cares’s vital work, which includes player welfare, men’s health and social engagement.

Halfords Bicycle Manager Chris Whitworth, a lifelong Hull FC fan, said: “We are thrilled to have this opportunity to support a charity which supports thousands of people in the communities where Rugby League is played.

“The Ride to Wembley is going to be a massive challenge for all the riders and Halford are delighted to do our bit to keep the riders safely in the saddle over what will be five testing days.

“I have nothing but admiration for the work of RL Cares and hope as many Rugby League fans as possible get behind the Ride to Wembley to help the charity continue to fulfil its vital role.”
