A standing ovation as the momentum grows!

Once again, the Join the Momentum programme is close to putting on a brilliant show thanks to the hard work, talent and dedication of our dancers. Sunday 23rd August saw all of the dancers come together as a company to rehearse this years Challenge Cup Final half time piece 'Try Then/Try Now'. The mass rehearsal was the culmination of a summer of hard work by the dancers, Phoenix Dance Theatre and Rugby League Cares.

Commisioned by Rugby League Cares and working across 13 different locations, Phoenix Dance Theatre have delivered 15 intensive summer camps throughout July and August. During this time participants have worked with Phoenix Dance Theatre’s leading practitioners to learn mass movement material choreographed by Artistic Director, Sharon Watson. Sunday was the first time all of the dancers came together to rehearse on mass and were delighted be rehearsing on a full size pitch thanks to Widnes Vikings.  At the end of the final dress run performed in front of the home crowd, the stadium errupted into applause as spectators recognised the talent of the dancers and the quality of the choreography.

The piece 'Try Then/Try Now'  is a celebration of 120 years of the Rugby League. Using extracts from live rugby league commentary spanning over a century, the piece is inspired by the highs and lows of the game – highlighting the teamwork and dedication of those both on and off the pitch.

The next time the dancers meet they will be hours away from performing live at Wembley Stadium as part of the Challenge Cup Final. Let's hope we can get the whole crowd on their feet again.
